  • Total Time: 1 hour 45 minutes
  • Yield: 1012 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Ham

1 fully cooked bone-in ham (7-9 lbs)

1/2 cup water (for roasting pan)

Honey Glaze

3/4 cup honey

1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)

2 tbsp Dijon mustard

2 tbsp unsalted butter

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp ground cloves

1/4 tsp nutmeg

1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

Preheat Oven
Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). Place the ham cut-side down in a roasting pan. Add water to the bottom of the pan.

Score the Ham
Using a sharp knife, lightly score the surface of the ham in a diamond pattern. This helps the glaze soak in.

Bake the Ham
Cover loosely with foil and bake for about 1 hour (about 10–12 minutes per pound).

Make the Glaze
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine honey, brown sugar, mustard, butter, and spices. Stir until smooth and slightly thickened (about 5 minutes).

Glaze the Ham
Remove foil and brush a generous layer of glaze over the ham.

Finish Roasting
Return to oven uncovered and bake for another 30–40 minutes, basting every 10–15 minutes with more glaze until caramelized.

Rest and Serve
Let the ham rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing. Spoon extra glaze over slices when serving.

Notes

Cooking Tips

  • Use a bone-in ham for the best flavor and moisture.
  • Don’t skip scoring—it helps the glaze penetrate deeper.
  • Covering with foil early prevents the ham from drying out.
  • Baste frequently for a glossy, caramelized finish.
  • Use a meat thermometer—ham is ready at 140°F internal temp.
  • Save the pan drippings to drizzle over slices for extra flavor.

Variations

  • Maple Glazed Ham: Replace honey with pure maple syrup.
  • Pineapple Honey Ham: Add pineapple juice to the glaze and top with pineapple rings.
  • Spicy Honey Ham: Add 1–2 tsp chili flakes or hot sauce.
  • Orange Honey Ham: Add orange zest and fresh orange juice to the glaze.
  • Bourbon Honey Ham: Stir in 2 tbsp bourbon for a deeper flavor.
  • Garlic Herb Twist: Add minced garlic and rosemary to the glaze.
  • Low Sugar Option: Use sugar-free honey substitute and reduce brown sugar.
  • Gluten-Free: Ensure mustard and ham are certified gluten-free.
