Juicy, flavorful homemade burger patties are easy to make with just a few pantry staples and fresh ground beef. These patties cook up tender and delicious, making them perfect for backyard cookouts, weeknight dinners, or classic burger nights with your favorite toppings.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 burger patties 1x

Ingredients

1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon ketchup (optional for moisture)

4 burger buns

Desired toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, pickles

Instructions

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup. Mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix.

Divide mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties about ¾-inch thick.

Press a small indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to help prevent puffing while cooking.

Heat a grill, skillet, or griddle over medium-high heat.

Cook patties for 4–5 minutes per side for medium doneness, or longer to your preferred temperature.

Add cheese during the last minute of cooking if desired.

Toast buns lightly and assemble burgers with favorite toppings.

Notes

Cooking Tips

  • Use 80/20 ground beef for juicy burgers.
  • Avoid pressing patties while cooking, which releases juices.
  • Let burgers rest 3 minutes before serving.
  • Make patties slightly larger than buns since they shrink while cooking.

Variations

  • Cheddar Bacon Burgers: Add shredded cheddar and cooked bacon bits.
  • Spicy Burgers: Mix in diced jalapeños or hot sauce.
  • Mushroom Swiss: Top with sautéed mushrooms and Swiss cheese.
  • Turkey Burgers: Substitute ground turkey and cook thoroughly.
  • BBQ Burgers: Add BBQ sauce to mixture and top with crispy onions.
