Glazed Donut Muffins are soft, fluffy muffins that taste just like classic cake donuts—without the frying. Coated in a buttery vanilla glaze, they’re quick, easy, and perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a sweet snack.

  • Total Time: 25–30 minutes
  • Yield: 12 standard muffins 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Muffins:

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1 1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp ground nutmeg (key donut flavor!)

1/2 cup milk

1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Glaze:

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

3-4 tbsp milk

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 tbsp melted butter

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease or line a muffin tin.

In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg.

In another bowl, mix milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla.

Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed (don’t overmix).

Divide batter evenly into muffin cups (about ¾ full).

Bake for 15–18 minutes, until lightly golden and a toothpick comes out clean.

Let muffins cool slightly.

Make the glaze:
Whisk powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and melted butter until smooth.
Dip warm muffins into glaze or drizzle over the tops.
Let glaze set for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Cooking Tips

  • Don’t skip the nutmeg—it gives that classic donut flavor.
  • For extra richness, use buttermilk instead of regular milk.
  • Dip muffins while slightly warm for the best glaze coverage.
  • Avoid overmixing to keep muffins soft and tender.

Variations

  • Cinnamon Sugar Donut Muffins: Skip glaze and roll warm muffins in melted butter, then cinnamon sugar.
  • Chocolate Glaze: Add 2 tbsp cocoa powder to the glaze.
  • Mini Muffins: Bake for 10–12 minutes for bite-sized treats.
  • Filled Donut Muffins: Add a spoonful of jam or Nutella in the center before baking.
  • Maple Glaze: Replace vanilla with maple extract for a cozy twist.
