Ingredients
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or chicken thighs
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon paprika
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Honey Mustard Sauce
1/3 cup Dijon mustard
3 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or lemon juice
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
Optional Garnish
Chopped parsley
Extra honey drizzle
Cracked black pepper
Instructions
Pat the chicken dry with paper towels. If using thick chicken breasts, pound them to an even thickness so they cook evenly.
Season the ChickenIn a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Rub the mixture all over the chicken.
Make the Honey Mustard SauceIn another bowl, whisk together the Dijon mustard, honey, yellow mustard, mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, minced garlic, parsley, and optional cayenne until smooth.
Coat the ChickenReserve about one-third of the sauce for serving later. Brush the remaining honey mustard sauce over the chicken pieces.
Air FryPreheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes. Place the chicken in the air fryer basket in a single layer, leaving space between each piece.
Cook for 14–18 minutes, flipping halfway through and brushing with a little more sauce if desired. Chicken is done when the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
Rest and ServeLet the chicken rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Drizzle with the reserved honey mustard sauce and garnish with parsley if desired.
Notes
Cooking Tips
- Use chicken thighs for extra juiciness. They stay especially tender in the air fryer.
- Don’t overcrowd the basket. Air needs to circulate for even browning.
- Use a meat thermometer. This is the easiest way to avoid overcooking.
- Line the basket lightly if needed. Honey mustard sauce can caramelize and stick.
- Flip halfway through cooking. This helps both sides brown evenly.
- Add sauce near the end for less burning. If your air fryer runs hot, brush extra glaze on during the last few minutes.
- Let the chicken rest before slicing. This keeps it juicy.
Variations
1. Spicy Honey Mustard Chicken
Add extra cayenne, hot sauce, or a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.

Coat the chicken lightly in seasoned breadcrumbs or panko before air frying.
4. Maple Mustard Chicken
Swap the honey for pure maple syrup for a deeper, richer sweetness.

6. Low-Carb Version
Use a sugar-free honey substitute or reduce the honey slightly for a lower-carb option.
7. Honey Mustard Chicken Bites
Cut the chicken into chunks before cooking for a fun appetizer or salad topper.
8. Bacon Honey Mustard Chicken
Top with crumbled crispy bacon after cooking for a smoky twist.
