Turkey Taco Lettuce Wraps

Turkey Taco Lettuce Wraps

Turkey Taco Lettuce Wraps are a fresh, flavorful, and lighter take on classic tacos. Seasoned ground turkey is simmered with warm spices, then spooned into crisp lettuce cups and finished with your favorite taco toppings. They’re quick to make, naturally gluten-free, and perfect for busy weeknights or meal prep.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 (about 23 wraps per serving) 1x

Ingredients

1 lb ground turkey (93% lean recommended)

1 tbsp olive oil

1 small onion, finely diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 tbsp taco seasoning (store-bought or homemade)

1/4 cup water or low-sodium chicken broth

Salt & black pepper, to taste

For Serving

Butter lettuce, romaine hearts, or iceberg leaves

Diced tomatoes

Shredded cheddar or Mexican-blend cheese

Diced avocado or guacamole

Sour cream or Greek yogurt

Fresh cilantro, chopped

Lime wedges

Instructions

Sauté aromatics: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.

Brown turkey: Add ground turkey to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart, until fully browned (5–7 minutes).

Season: Sprinkle in taco seasoning and add water or broth. Stir well and simmer for 3–5 minutes until thickened and flavorful. Season with salt and pepper as needed.

Assemble wraps: Spoon the turkey mixture into clean, dry lettuce leaves.

Top & serve: Add your favorite toppings and finish with a squeeze of fresh lime.

Notes

Cooking Tips

  • Choose sturdy lettuce: Butter lettuce is flexible, while romaine and iceberg offer extra crunch.

  • Drain excess moisture: If your turkey releases liquid, drain slightly before seasoning to keep wraps from getting soggy.

  • Meal prep friendly: Store turkey filling separately from lettuce for up to 4 days in the fridge.

  • Extra flavor: Add a splash of lime juice or a pinch of smoked paprika to the turkey mixture.

Variations

  • Spicy: Add diced jalapeños, chipotle powder, or hot sauce to the turkey.

  • Low-carb keto: Skip tomatoes and use full-fat toppings like cheese and avocado.

  • Dairy-free: Omit cheese and sour cream; add avocado crema or salsa instead.

  • Tex-Mex style: Stir in black beans and corn for a heartier filling (note: adds carbs).

  • Asian-inspired twist: Swap taco seasoning for ginger, garlic, and soy sauce; top with shredded carrots and sesame seeds.
