Ingredients
1 lb fresh asparagus, trimmed
1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Lemon wedges (optional, for serving)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
Arrange asparagus in a single layer on a baking sheet.
Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and garlic powder if using. Toss to coat evenly.
Roast for 12–15 minutes, until asparagus is tender and lightly browned at the tips.
Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle Parmesan over the hot asparagus.
Return to the oven for 1–2 minutes until cheese melts.
Serve warm, with a squeeze of lemon if desired.
Notes
Cooking Tips
-
Use freshly grated Parmesan for better melting and flavor than pre-shredded cheese.
-
Don’t overcrowd the pan—spacing helps the asparagus roast instead of steam.
-
Thicker asparagus spears may need an extra 2–3 minutes of roasting time.
-
For extra crispiness, finish under the broiler for 30–60 seconds.
Variations
-
Garlic Parmesan Asparagus: Add 2 cloves minced garlic during the last 5 minutes of roasting.
-
Lemon Parmesan Asparagus: Finish with lemon zest and juice for a bright, fresh flavor.
-
Spicy Version: Sprinkle with red pepper flakes before roasting.
-
Balsamic Parmesan: Drizzle lightly with balsamic glaze just before serving.
-
Cheesy Upgrade: Mix Parmesan with shredded mozzarella or Gruyère for a richer topping.
