Mushroom Swiss Burger

Mushroom Swiss Burger

This Mushroom Swiss Burger is rich, savory, and ultra-satisfying. Juicy beef patties are topped with buttery sautéed mushrooms and melted Swiss cheese, then tucked into a toasted bun for a classic steakhouse-style burger you can make right at home.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended)

Salt and black pepper, to taste

8 slices Swiss cheese

4 burger buns (brioche or classic sesame)

2 tablespoons butter

8 oz mushrooms, sliced (button or cremini)

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)

1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

Prepare the Patties
Divide ground beef into 4 equal portions and gently form into patties. Season both sides with salt and pepper.

Sauté the Mushrooms
Heat butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add mushrooms and cook 6–8 minutes until browned and tender. Stir in Worcestershire sauce if using. Remove from heat.

Cook the Burgers
Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side, or until desired doneness.

Add the Cheese
Place Swiss cheese slices on each patty during the last minute of cooking. Cover to help melt.

Toast the Buns
Lightly toast buns on the grill or in a skillet until golden.

Assemble
Place burgers on buns, top generously with sautéed mushrooms, and serve hot.

Notes

Cooking Tips

  • Avoid overworking the meat to keep burgers tender and juicy.

  • Let burgers rest for 2 minutes before assembling to retain juices.

  • For deeper flavor, caramelize mushrooms slowly over medium-low heat.

Variations

  • Garlic Mushroom Swiss Burger: Add minced garlic to the mushrooms during cooking.

  • Caramelized Onion Add-On: Add sautéed onions for extra sweetness.

  • Turkey Mushroom Swiss Burger: Swap ground beef for ground turkey (93% lean).

  • Low-Carb Option: Serve over lettuce wraps instead of buns.

  • Spicy Twist: Add pepper jack cheese or a swipe of spicy mayo.
