Cheesy Texas Toast

Golden, garlicky Texas-style bread topped with melted cheese—perfect as a side for pasta, soups, or as a snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf Texas toast (about 12 slices, store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Optional: 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven
    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare garlic butter
    • In a small bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Spread butter on bread
    • Spread the garlic butter evenly on each slice of Texas toast.
  4. Add cheese
    • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and cheddar evenly over the buttered slices.
  5. Bake
    • Place slices on the prepared baking sheet.
    • Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
    • For extra golden cheese, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end (watch carefully).
  6. Garnish & serve
    • Sprinkle chopped parsley over the top if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes or paprika for a little heat.
  • Use a mix of cheeses like provolone, Monterey Jack, or Parmesan for more flavor.
  • For an indulgent twist, sprinkle cooked bacon bits on top before baking.
