Crispy, cheesy, and ready in minutes—these Air Fryer Tuna Melts deliver golden toast, a creamy tuna filling, and perfectly melted cheese without heating up the oven. A fast, satisfying lunch or easy dinner win.

  • Total Time: 16–18 minutes
  • Yield: 4 open-faced tuna melts (serves 2–4) 1x

Ingredients

2 cans (5 oz each) tuna, drained well

1/4 cup mayonnaise

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)

1/4 cup finely diced celery

2 tablespoons finely diced red onion

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Salt and black pepper, to taste

4 slices bread (sourdough, rye, or whole wheat)

4 slices cheese (cheddar, provolone, Swiss, or American)

Optional toppings: sliced tomato, pickles, fresh parsley

Instructions

Mix the Tuna Salad: In a bowl, combine tuna, mayonnaise, mustard (if using), celery, red onion, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix until creamy and evenly combined.

Assemble: Lay bread slices on a clean surface. Spoon tuna mixture evenly over each slice. Top with a slice of cheese.

Air Fry: Place sandwiches in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 6–8 minutes, until the bread is crisp and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serve: Carefully remove, add optional toppings, and serve hot.

Notes

Cooking Tips

  • Drain tuna thoroughly to prevent soggy bread.

  • Open-faced works best for even melting and crisp edges.

  • Check at 5 minutes—air fryers vary, and cheese can melt fast.

  • For extra crunch, lightly butter or spray the bread edges before air frying.

Variations

  • Healthy Swap: Use Greek yogurt instead of mayo and whole-grain bread.

  • Spicy Tuna Melt: Add diced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce.

  • Mediterranean Style: Mix in capers, olives, and use provolone or mozzarella.

  • Low-Carb: Skip the bread and air fry the tuna mixture in portobello mushroom caps or on bell pepper halves.
